Ripping Your Audio CD

Ripping CDs can be very fun especially when you want to make a collection of your favorite songs and put it in one place. That's what this guide is all about.

Sometimes you want to listen to your music while you are surfing. You simply don’t want to get up, dig deep into your CD collections just to find a single song you want to listen to at the moment. The best solution would be to put all your favourite songs on your hard drive and listen to them as often as you want without having to search for them among hundreds of CDs. That’s what CD ripping is all about: to copy your songs from your CD and put them on your hard drive.

This guide will help you through the whole process of ripping songs from your CD to your hard drive. The software which is used for this purpose can be found on the internet in plenty of numbers but I will show you how to rip your CD using Nero. You can download a trial version from Nero’s site. Go ahead, download the software and install it.

Start nero Express and you will get this window on your screen:

Click on the “More
>>” to unfold the hidden options. Now click on “Save tracks to HD” and it will bring up the CD data base window. Click Cancel and click OK if asked to save your tracks in mp3Pro format. This format will save your tracks in a compressed form without losing any quality and thus saving you much of your HD space.

Now all the tracks in the CD will be listed in a window like the one below:

In the output file format you can change settings to some other format like .wave but remember that it will take much of your HD’s space since one minute .wave audio takes around 10 MB, so you’d better watch it.

No matter what format you choose you
can change its bit rate etc by clicking on the Settings button. On the left bottom of the window you can check "Jitter correction" and "Remove Silence" for a better output. Look around and make changes you want and click GO when done.

The ripping process begins immediately. Sit back and relax as it may take a while before all the tracks are ripped to your HD. That’s all there is to it!
